The front runner for 2023’s ‘Carp Angler of the Year’ has added another giant to his tally of big fish this week, banking the impressive ‘Scar’ at a whopping 54lb 12oz from Kingsmead 1.
Paul Bacon has already landed four other 50lb-plus carp from the Grenville syndicate in Cambridgeshire this year and has now made it five with the RK Leisure beast.
The fish came as part of a remarkable haul comprising of 16 other carp to 36lb 1oz as well as a 46lb 6oz fish known as the ‘Football Sutton’.

“It was the first trip of the year to Kingsmead for me, and it was obvious where the fish were but there was a bream angler in the peg, so I had to wait a couple of days before I could get on them,” Paul told us.
After waiting to get in the right area, it wasn’t long before Paul had his first bite.
“I was only fishing short range, 35-40 yards out,” he said.
“It’s the complete opposite style to my Grenville fishing as I used small amounts of bait too, fishing for just a bite at a time.
“The session just seemed to get better and better – it was great to get daytime takes too.”
All Paul’s fish fell to Snowman rigs with DNA Bug Hard Hookers tipped with 12mm Fruitylicious pop-ups alongside golf ball sized PVA bags of DNA Bug crumbed boilies.
