We never know when a big fish will show up during a session, and more often than not, it seems to happen when we’ve forgotten essential gear—like our scales! This was exactly the case for angler Mitch Marshall, who landed a fantastic chub but had to release it without recording its weight.
The fish was caught on the Dorset Stour, a river renowned for its history of producing big chub. With such a prestigious venue, it’s fair to assume this chub is the fish of a lifetime for Mitch, but could have been up there with some of the biggest specimens ever landed?

"I’d like to ask for your opinion on this chub I caught during the summer and hear what others think too, as I never managed to weigh it," Mitch explained.
"Unfortunately, I didn’t bring any scales with me, and it’s been bugging me ever since," he added.
"This was caught on the River Stour, freelining in clear, deep water. If you could share it with others to get their opinions, that would be amazing."
