BIG stillwater sturgeon are becoming an increasingly popular target for thrill-seeking anglers in the UK, and it’s not surprising when they look as impressive as this 84lb giant, landed by young Cosmo Cooper.
The 14-year-old from the West Midlands was fishing at Hollyhurst Lakes with his dad, Stuart, where the pair had enjoyed an epic session, landing 36 carp between them, before Cosmo turned his attention to the sturgeon.
“We weren’t overly confident we could catch a big one, but Cosmo was adamant it would happen,” Stuart told us.
“After all the carp, he switched to a luncheon meat hookbait, and just after midnight his rod was away. I had to grab him as he was fast asleep! He was soon up and playing the fish, with a huge sturgeon eventually swirling in the water in front of us. It was simply massive, and weighed 84lb, but to be honest, the number was irrelevant!”
