“I’ve been fishing for only two years, but on a recent trip to a Hertfordshire stillwater I managed to catch this 10lb 14oz tench at first light.
“I was fishing a salty squid pop-up over a bed of crushed hemp when I had the run.
“Immediately, the fish came to the surface before diving deep and kiting to the right. It took line several times, trying to reach the deeper water, and when it finally surfaced I realised it was an absolute beast of a tench.
“We let the fish rest for several minutes before unhooking it and taking a few pics.”
