AFTER searching the wild rivers of Wales for a big grayling, in the end it was a southern chalk stream near his place of work that came up trumps for Berkshire angler Adam Jones.
When a small window of opportunity presented itself following a meeting, and with the weather looking spot-on, Adam grabbed his 17ft float rod and a tub of red maggots and headed to the river.
After first landing a 2lb 12oz fish from a tight swim – a PB at the time – he then connected with the three-pounder when he targeted the tail of a pool.
The fish gave what Adam described as an ‘immense battle’, during which he ended up having to enter the river to stop it from powering off too far downstream.
