“I travelled to the tidal Trent from Manchester in search of big chub. The river was up and coloured, and I decided that marginal slacks right under the rod-tip would be my best chance.
“Maggot was my bait of choice, and I baited a few spots with a view to fishing them in rotation. On my first spot I dropped a 20g maggot feeder in and within seconds the rod hooped over. I struck into what felt like a very good fish which at first I thought it was a barbel, but when it surfaced I could see it was a very special chub.
“Weighing 7lb 8oz, it’s a new PB and I was left in shock at what I’d just caught. I’ve been after a chub of this calibre for years!”
