Huge trout from ‘fishless’ Aire – Callum Beer

by Angling Times |

“For at least a year I’ve had my heart set on catching a huge brown trout that I’ve been watching on a stretch of the River Aire that’s deemed to be ‘fishless’ by most local anglers. I’ve spent loads of sessions chasing it.

“On my latest trip, after having a few lobworms stolen by smaller trout, the rod wrapped round and I lifted into this very special fish. It went on a crazy run downstream before flying back up, leaping out of the water several times!

“My heart was pounding, as I was using a barbless hook, but after a few more savage runs I slowly brought it over the net. What a fish, and at 10lb on the nose, it’s the Holy Grail for me.”
