IAN WOODS enjoyed a memorable trip to a Norfolk gravel pit, where he landed this 11lb 2oz tench plus a 5lb 8oz eel.
Arriving at the venue, which is predominantly a carp syndicate, Ian baited a gravel bar next to some lily pads at 50 yards with a mix of pellets and casters. He cast inline maggot feeders over the top of it, with his hookbait of three live red maggots and an artificial grub fished mag-aligner style.
His first bite came at lunchtime, which he guessed was from a tench due to the powerful fight, but it turned out to be a superb 5lb 8oz eel.
After a quiet spell, he managed another smaller eel, plus a 7lb tench. Then, as he was packing up, he saw a fish roll over his bait and 30 seconds later the rod ripped off, producing the 11lb 2oz beast.
