ROACH expert Dr Mark Everard landed this 2lb 12oz roach from ‘a Wessex river’ on quivertipped breadflake during the final throes of his river campaign.

Finding the river carrying colour and a little extra pace, Mark chose to cast upstream to a slack. Soon after, he had a slow pull on the tip of his 1980s Silstar quiver rod and connected with a fish that fought well in the current, kicking and kiting in typical big roach fashion.

After landing it, he suspected the fish might go close to 3lb, but he was far from disappointed to see it fall just 4oz short.

Mark used a 15g feeder filled with liquidised bread, and a size 12 hook.
