ON a short evening trip, Hertfordshire angler Alex Wolzak landed this 17lb 10oz barbel from the River Lea’s challenging King’s Weir.

Fishing a paste-wrapped 10mm halibut pellet below a feeder filled with hemp, groundbait and small pellets, Alex recast regularly to a gravel spit.

Four hours later his rod flew round and he struck into a fish which came in quite easily before going on a series of powerful runs under the rod-tip.

After Alex had landed it and let it recover, fishery manager Andy Tredgett weighed it in.
