Cambridgeshire angler Ryszard Warman managed arguably the best individual fish of the opening week in the shape of a 3lb 10oz rudd, taken from a Fenland drain with the new season just a few hours old.
“I got to the swim at dawn and it was clear there were fish in the area,” he said.
“A decent one swirled to my right, so I cast my floatfished breadflake at it and the fish took it immediately. I couldn’t believe the size of it in the net – it was massive!”
