YOUNG Ajay Ross became the envy of many a seasoned eel angler last week when he landed this 6lb 1oz specimen at a commercial fishery during a session targeting carp.
Fishing at Manor Farm Leisure, near Evesham, the 13-year-old had been spending the day happily alternating between bomb and pellet and pellet waggler tactics, catching a steady stream of carp and F1s in the process.
That all changed when his rod-tip flew round once more, and he latched into something much more powerful that made a beeline for a reedbed.
After a hairy battle, the immense eel surfaced, leaving Ajay a little surprised, to say the least.
“I’ve never caught an eel before, and to be honest, I never intended to!” he said.
“Luckily, my mate’s dad was there to help me unhook and handle it safely.”
