WE’RE only just into the traditional pike season, but anglers have been reporting phenomenal fish, none more so than Chris Mason’s 35lb 2oz pike.

Targeting Somerset’s legendary Chew Valley Lake, he was fishing from the bank when he tempted the predator on a smelt during bright sunshine and in clear water conditions.

Chris, from Staffordshire, said seeing the immense pike – which set a new PB by over 2lb – come up from the depths for the first time set his pulse racing!
