Four-year wait for Trent ticket pays off

HAVING kept an eye on a stretch of the tidal River Trent while stuck on a four-year waiting list for a permit from the controlling club, Leicester angler Lee McManus made the most of things when he finally got a ticket by landing this superb 18lb 2oz zander.

Having seen past catch pictures of fish from the stretch, he knew its potential, and it didn’t take him long to get among the larger residents when his small roach deadbait, presented in a deep channel a rodlength out, fooled the impressive predator.

It comfortably beats Lee’s long-standing 15lb 2oz zander PB, which he caught from the Middle Level Drain way back in 2000.
