Alan Rio recently enjoyed an unbelievable session on an undisclosed southern gravel pit, landing five tench between 7lb and 10lb.
“Fishing cage feeders and heli rigs at short range, bites came steadily. The first tench was an 8lb 1oz male, quickly followed by a larger male of 9lb 2oz," he told us.
"Three red maggots was the winning hookbait for these fish, but the following day I changed to a worm kebab rig and introduced some chopped worm feed.
“It wasn’t long before I started getting the odd indication, and I soon connected with a hard-fighting 9lb 8oz fish, which was followed by this awesome-looking 10lb 4oz female – a total surprise. I kept the bait going in and managed one more, smaller, fish of 7lb 4oz.”
