“I live a five-minute walk from an amazing stretch of the middle Trent and planned a quick overnighter in search of a few barbel.
“I started fishing at 6pm, but with nothing to show for my efforts four hours later I put on a fresh hookbait and a PVA bag of pellets and dropped it into the margins with a scattering of boilies over the top.
“Half-an-hour later it screamed off and I knew it was a big fish. After a great scrap I had it in the net, and at 16lb 11oz, it’s a new PB!”
