Landing a single PB each season is enough for most anglers, but Toby Searl smashed his roach best twice in one trip with fish of 2lb 10oz and of 3lb 1oz!
Having driven four hours to a large stillwater, Toby did a lap of the venue and found a few fish topping in a corner, so set up there. Fishing a maggot feeder with three red maggots on a size 12, he soon began to catch fish over the 1lb mark.
“Unbelievably, one of the next fish weighed 2lb 10oz – I was made up with that!” Toby said.
“I carried on fishing, and the next evening, just as I was getting ready to leave, I had a gentle drop-back bite.
“The fish felt like a good one, and once in the net, I knew it was bigger than any roach I’d ever seen. At 3lb 1oz, it was an incredible end to the trip.”
