THE Warwickshire Avon has been in excellent form for big barbel this season, but predator anglers are also enjoying what the river has on offer, as Anthony Wilson proved with this magnificent 16lb 3oz zander.
He caught it from a swim in a deeper area of the river, where there was an eddy on both sides of the flow before it shallowed up further downstream.
Anthony had the bite an hour after dropping his hookbait – half a small roach mounted on a single size 3 hook – just a rodlength out from the bank, into the nearside eddy.
He revealed that the old-looking fish didn’t fight much at all, but he wasn’t complaining when the scales revealed it to be a new personal best!
