USING ‘the most battered lure in his box’ ended former Olympic decathlete Dean Macey’s 20-year marathon search for a 4lb-plus perch.
Dean, who’s also now a presenter on various fishing TV shows, had just splashed out on new rods, reels, an echo sounder, and a shed-load of lures for a trip to a massive reservoir, but in the end it was an old faithful bit of tackle that did the trick.
“Don’t ask me what the lure is called, as I have no idea,” said Dean,
“But it’s the oldest one in my box and I’ve always thought it looked epic!” he added.
The superb stripey put up what Dean described as ‘an amazing fight for any perch’, with he and his boat partner realising it was ‘a little bit special’ as soon as they saw it breach the surface.
