Big crucians are back at famous Surrey lake

A few years ago, Johnsons Lake in Surrey dominated the big-crucian scene, with lots of huge fish, plus a British best, reported from the venue.

After a few slow seasons, some were beginning to wonder whether the bubble had burst, but on a recent return to the Godalming AS water, venue record holder Julian Barnes enjoyed a bumper session, landing eight crucians to a best of 4lb 3oz.

He said: “It was a brilliant two days’ fishing – I also had 23 tench to 8lb 9oz! They were all caught on Method feeder tactics, using fake caster hookbaits.”
