“During a trip to the Birmingham Fazeley canal I managed this 25lb 4oz pike, beating my previous PB of 20lb from a river.
“I had a fish follow my rubber shad lure, and although it didn’t take it, I could see that it was a big girl… but I had no idea quite how big. Soon afterwards, I changed over to a small crankbait and on my fourth cast something really hefty slammed into my lure.
“After a nerve-racking 15-minute battle I managed to grab the fish under the chin and, as I pulled her out, I knew she was a bit special.
“That morning I almost didn’t go, as there was a horrendous downpour, but I’m so glad I did. This fish was well worth a soaking!”
