If you’ve ever taken a complete novice or a child fishing, you’ll likely have a story — as many anglers do — of the person you take catching a massive fish. Whether it’s because they aren’t overthinking tactics or worrying about where they position there bit, it’s unclear, but whatever the reason, it happens far too often to be a coincidence.
On a recent session, Thomas Robertson took a few of his family members fishing, and while they all eventually caught, it was his young nephew who truly stole the show with a cracking pike!
“Four of us, including my nephew, Max, recently went away and spent three days fishing a Lincolnshire stillwater.
“Pike were our target, and after a blank first day we managed eight jacks on the second.
“It had been hard going, and on the third day that continued, as we landed another half-dozen jacks. Then, at 2pm, Max had a take on a floatfished smelt from this 24lb 9oz specimen.
"It certainly made up for our struggles in finding a fish of any size. He hasn’t shut up about it since!”
