History has been made this weekend, as Nathan Buckingham managed to obliterate the current 22lb 1oz barbel record, currently held by Simon Baker, with this colossal 23lb fish.
Caught from the River Lea, Nathan’s fish is actually the same barbel that holds the current British record, having put on a healthy 15oz in weight since its previous capture late last year.
Nathan is no stranger to big barbel, having banked fish of 20lb 9oz and 19lb 8oz last season, and it is fitting that his efforts were finally rewarded with the ultimate prize.
The capture was witnessed by two other anglers, with the fish safely weighed on three sets of scales, all of which read the same weight.
Nathan will be submitting an official claim to the British Record Fish Committee, in the hope that it will be accepted as the new British record.
