AN HOUR-LONG special of Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Christmas Fishing will air over the festive period, and this year an array of special guests are set to join Bob and Paul on the riverbank.

Britain’s favourite TV fishing show will go out on BBC2 at 9pm on Boxing Day, and follows the intrepid duo as they head to the Rivers Tyne and Eden in search of an English salmon – a species either has yet to catch.

Among the star names accompanying them to the water’s edge will be local North East legend Paul Gascoigne, who admits that fishing comes a close second to his passion for football, while doctor Anand Patel will also be chatting to Bob on the riverside about loneliness during the festive season and how we can all help those who may suffer isolation during Christmas.

Fishing dog Ted will be with them again, and all three take an emotional trip to a local dog shelter, while Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott from the band The Beautiful South will also make a special appearance on the show, along with another surprise guest who has yet to be revealed.

There are plenty of laughs, a few tears and some big surprises in this special episode, which will leave you well and truly immersed in the Christmas spirit!
