(This catch was reported before the river close season came into force on March 15th 2022)
AFTER landing a 40lb 12oz pike a few weeks ago, Lincolnshire predator expert Neville Fickling didn’t sit back and revel in his success – instead he got straight back out on a local river and duly landed this colossal 18lb 14oz zander!
Water levels were a little high, but with time rapidly running out on the season Nev took his chance and fished from his boat, using a smelt hookbait on a float set-up.
At 8pm, just as he was beginning to wonder what he was doing out in the dark and cold on such a miserable night, his float sailed away and after a brief fight he landed the big zander, which comfortably beat his previous best for the species of 16lb 8oz.
Keen to try to finish the season on a high, Nev revealed that he’d been out for 22 hours, 12 of which were spent in darkness.
Now that’s dedication!
