FURTHER proof that sturgeon could once again be making a comeback in Britain’s waterways emerged last month when a 46-pounder was landed from a Midlands river.

Captor Ian Kerr, a managing director for Howzat Travel, lives on a narrowboat and prior to his latest session had prebaited a few likely-looking areas.

After casting out, he first caught a few bream and carp, but then he hooked into something that tested his 3lb test curve rod to the limit.

“I knew there were sturgeon in the stretch, and after about 30 seconds I realised that I was connected to one of them!” he told us.

“It gave me a right old battle. I caught it on baits and hooks made by my mate, Jason Haywood. I’ve had great results on these.”
