Terry Theobold stumbled on some brilliant roach fishing on a Shropshire venue he had intended to fish for crucians, culminating in the recent capture of this 2lb 15oz specimen.
“Back in January I joined the fishery with a view to fish for its crucians, but I was pleased to hear that there were also some good roach present," he said.
“Unseasonably cold weather put the crucian fishing on the back burner and I focused instead on the roach.
“Over five weeks I had several between 1lb 6oz and 2lb 3oz on maggot feeder, and after a short break I was back on the lake in late April, when I managed four short afternoon sessions.
“On the Wednesday there was a welcome drop in air pressure, and under dark grey skies fish began topping 40 yards out. After landing a little perch, I had a positive take from a stunning 2lb 6oz redfin, and 10 minutes later I had another take from a hard-fighting fish. When it rolled, it was plain to see it was a big roach, which weighed a whopping 2lb 15oz.”
