The carp record at the famous Walthamstow complex in London has been broken with the capture of this huge 51lb 2oz common carp by Junior Cunningham.

Just a few weeks after breaking his personal best with a carp of 35lb 8oz from the venue's Lower Maynard lake, the local 31-year-old returned for a 24 hour session to try and continue his run of form.

Fishing to a spot in open water, Junior opted for a minimal baiting approach with just a handful of Baitwork boilies as loose feed.

"I see a lot of anglers here putting in a lot of bait from the off, but I prefer to start on the smaller side and then put more out if needed," he explained.

The first day of his session passed without event, but in the early hours of the following morning a few bleeps on his left-hand rod proceeded a sudden dropback bite.

"After a short, but nerve-wracking, fight I saw the legendary Big Common coming over the landing net cord. At 51lb 2oz it was not only another new personal best for me but also set a new complex record."

The impressive specimen fell to a Secret Squirrel hookbait fished inside a solid PVA bag on a slip-D rig.
