BOATS aren’t just for reservoir anglers, they can be a great aid in river fishing too because they allow you to target areas other anglers can’t reach.

Mark Hewett took full advantage of his on a recent trip to the Lea, where he landed this 4lb 9oz stripey.

The Essex angler targeted four spots where he’s had success in the past with perch before finding what he described as ‘the beast of the Lea’.

A small floatfished roach livebait suspended a few inches off bottom near some underwater structures tempted the all-important bite.
