Dave Ramskill recently enjoyed a once in a lifetime barbel session on the River Trent, taking a cracking 13lb 12oz specimen and 12 other doubles.
He told Angling Times:
“When I arrived on the Trent at Gunthorpe for a 24-hour session on Lock Keepers Island, the river was up six inches and slightly coloured after recent rain. It looked perfect.
“I settled into an area where I could fish the run-off from the weir, and ended up having an unbelievable session. Casting two-thirds of the way across to a snaggy area, fishing two 12mm boilies with a PVA bag of pellets, I was into a fish within minutes, landing an 8lb barbel.
“This was just the start of things, and I landed 13 more barbel, all of them doubles, topped by a fish of 13lb 12oz. In addition, I had chub to 5lb 12oz and numerous bream. I’d brought a second rod with me but never set it up. It really was the session of a lifetime!”
