'Bait and wait' approach fools River Kennet chub

WINTER chub fishing often revolves around fishing multiple swims in a day and covering as much water as possible, but Rob Walton showed that sitting and steadily building a spot can also sometimes produce the goods when he landed this 7lb 10oz fish from the River Kennet.

Using a large maggot feeder, he kept the bait going in for an hour before his tip wrapped round and he connected with the specimen. Rob used a size 12 hook on to which he threaded three maggots as well as a smear of cheesepaste for some added attraction.

It’s his third fish over the 7lb mark from the Reading and District AA’s stretches of the Kennet in the last nine months... and he’s now after an ‘eight’!
