Appeal for fishing coaches

FOLLOWING the huge influx of new juniors to the sport over the past two years, one coaching organisation is on the hunt for experienced anglers to help guide the next generation.

The Angling Coaching Initiative was formed in 2017 by Chris Burt, who runs events across numerous venues in his home county of Essex. Last year he and his team provided coaching to a record 213 students. They’re looking to build on this but need more volunteers to meet high demand.

“Many of our previous events would have been able to cater for 20 students, but due to only a handful of volunteers being available, I’d be limited to 8-14 students,” says Chris.

“Volunteers don’t need any coaching experience or qualifications, they just have to be experienced anglers.”

Chris’ team provides coaching for 8–16-year-olds, and this year events begin on May 7.
