Another huge late-season crucian

4lb 3oz specimen falls at dusk

Another huge late-season crucian

by Angling Times |

THE old adage that crucians are solely a summer species is being disproved by a string of anglers who continue to target them well after the leaves have turned. Coventry angler David Brice is the latest to enjoy some autumnal action, landing this 4lb 3oz fish from a Surrey stillwater.

Finding the lake flat calm, but knowing the wind would pick up, he positioned himself in a swim that’d put him right on the end of it. Rather than Spomb out a bed of feed, he relied on his swimfeeders to create a small baited area to pull the fish towards his corn and fake caster baits.

Despite regular casting it was a long wait before David was into a run of bites, first landing a 3lb 6oz fish and following it up with his new PB just as dusk fell.
