Anglers warned to 'look out, look up'

THE UK’s biggest electricity distributor is urging the nation’s anglers to stay safe this season by keeping an eye out for overhead power lines.

UK Power Networks is concerned that the widespread excitement at returning to the riverbanks could cause some to drop their guard against the potentially lethal risk of accidentally touching the lines with rods or poles, so is asking them to remember the motto ‘look out, look up’ in a bid to avert any problems.

Although it has been three years since the last serious fishing-related incident involving power lines, the company doesn’t want complacency to set in.

Debbie Chachulski, a safety advisor at the firm, said:

“Look out for safety signage and never fish near overhead lines.”
