With the Thames finally settling down after floods, Jack Ashmead headed to the upper river in search of perch.
It proved to be a great decision, as he landed this fish of 5lb, plus another of 4lb 2oz across the two sessions just before the season concluded on March 15th.
Targeting a swim boasting a snag in the nearside margin, he fished two rods with sunken paternoster rigs and roach livebaits, pinned tight to the tree.
His first fish was the four-pounder, but on the very last day of the season he went one better, landing the ‘five’. That fish measured 51cm and ends what has been an excellent year for big-perch catches from the River Thames.
