To kick off his pike season, Gary Mills headed to a trout lough in the south of Ireland, where he hoped to get his winter campaign off to a flying start.
And, he certainly did that when, on the second day of his trip while fishing from a boat, he hooked and landed this superb specimen weighing 34lb exactly. Gary was fishing a large herring hookbait, which he had positioned on a shallow shelf.
When the fish picked up the bait, it immediately ran into the deeper water, and when Gary struck, he knew right away that he’d connected with a very heavy fish. After it had made several long, deep runs, Gary eventually had the fish under the boat, and not long after it lay safely in the folds of the landing net.
The fish sets a new personal best for Gary, and hopefully is a sign of even better things to come!
