If you have ever fished a venue that is rife with American Signal Crayfish, you will be only too aware of just how infuriating they can be to anglers. When they inhabit a waterway in large numbers, fishing, at times, can be almost impossible as they descend onto your bait, often eating it within minutes as well as destroying your rig in the process.
Despite the challenges of the crayfish problems on his local midlands canal, Ian Hannaby decided that, due to a change in conditions, he would attempt to catch his first zander of the year.
Opting for a late evening session, Ian deployed a small roach deadbait into a section of canal that has served him well in the past and it was certainly proved to be a great decision.
That evening, despite a few of his baits being destroyed by the resident crayfish, he went onto land six zander, with this fish being the biggest at a touch under double figures at 9lb 10oz.
