If there is any more proof needed that catch and release fishing causes minimal disturbance to fish, then the grayling David Pearson caught recently is testament to that. Not only was it a huge specimen, but he managed to catch it twice in less than 24 hours!
“I arrived at a Scottish river at 9.30am and soon landed my first grayling on maggots – a fish of 1lb 7oz.
“It wasn’t until 2pm that I had my next bite, this time on corn, from a fish that gave the most demanding fight from a grayling I’ve ever had. It weighed 3lb 3oz – an unbelievable fish!
“The rest of the day was pretty dire, so that evening I changed to a lighter float and strung-out shot, my plan being to fish slightly overdepth.
“The next day I hooked a grayling that gave another high-octane fight. On lifting the net, I thought it was another three-pounder, but soon realised it was the same one from yesterday!
“Shortly afterwards, I lost a huge dark grayling that left me trembling.”
