“I decided to go perch fishing on a stretch of the Thames where I once caught one of 3lb 13oz, but that was 16 years ago!
“Heavy showers and blustery winds made it hard work watching my quivertip and by lunchtime I was considering packing up, as I’d only had one tiny 2oz perch. But I decided to persevere, and later that afternoon I had a bite on my lobworm hookbait.
“As I struck, the fish fought hard, shaking its head before making a long run downstream. As I slowly drew it towards me, I saw the width across its back as it surfaced and was extra careful when scooping it with the net! At 4lb 1oz, it’s my joint PB and a fish that made my day.”
