Former Drennan Cup champion Daniel Woolcott is no stranger to big roach, and this spring he’s continued his superb form with the species by catching this giant weighing 3lb 7oz.
It was landed from B1, a 30-acre day-ticket carp lake on the Linear Fisheries Complex in Oxford, which also holds a small stock of big roach to target.
When reporting the fish to us, Daniel noted its characterful appearance, saying it was clearly an old warrior with a few tales to tell.
Maggot feeders, fished over a bed of Dynamite Baits Green Lipped Mussel groundbait and maggots, was the winning tactic.
Daniel rigged these up helicopter- fashion, along with short Drennan Acolyte fluorocarbon hooklinks and size 12 hooks.
