RETURNING angler Ben Elliott celebrated getting back on the bank after a two-year layoff by landing a 31lb 1oz carp on his first session back.
He was catching small carp on a light Method feeder set-up at Lilly Lake, part of Sheffield’s Aston Park Fisheries, when he latched into something far more substantial.
“It felt like I’d hooked the Earth itself!” Ben revealed.
It transpired that the carp was newly stocked and Ben, as the first to catch it, had the honour of naming it.
“I called it Preston, after the tackle I caught it on!” he said.
