Many anglers dream of catching a single rudd over the magical 2lb barrier without ever managing to achieve it. Yet Stephen Gibbons managed one of the all-time-great hauls of big rudd, including one at 3lb 5oz, plus 22 others over 2lb!

Targeting the Fenland drain system, Stephen was up early to make the most of the session. He opted to switch between a range of tactics and baits to keep the bites coming, as the rudd changed their feeding habits throughout the day.

“I started early in the morning, fishing both floating and sinking bread on the waggler, and caught four ‘twos’,” he told us.

“When they stopped showing, I switched to a Method feeder with a pineapple pop-up hookbait fished a foot off bottom, and the bites kept coming!”

Stephen fed tiger nut groundbait and liquidised bread to create a slow-sinking cloud of loosefeed.

“I had a the ‘three’ on the Method before switching back to the waggler and taking another four two-pounders.”
