Tench are known to be a fish of the summer. But that didn't stop James Lafferty from taking over 100lb of them from his local Cheshire mere at the end of March.
“Eighteen fish made up the catch, with the biggest (pictured) a female weighing 7lb 12oz," he told us.
"I had another four fish over the 7lb mark, while the others were all between 4lb and 6lb.
“I managed to catch a few tench this past winter, too, but have never had a session quite like this one! Maggots fished in a feeder were my winning tactic.
"Natural baits such as maggot and worm are a real winner early in the season and be careful not to overfeed."
