Max Palmer admits he drove home with a big smile on his face after taking a remarkable 111lb haul of tench in just four and a half hours of pole fishing at a southern club water.

The Devon angler targeted Island Pond on the Rackerhayes Complex, near Newton Abbot, where he landed 25 fish, all of which fell to casters presented 6m from the bank.

“I was very happy man driving back from the lake, but I’m amazed the water produced such a haul,” said Max.

“I kept things simple, targeting 7ft of water a few sections out and simply loosefeeding casters, fishing two of them on a size 16. The action was awesome, with bites coming pretty much every drop-in! It’s a catch I’ll struggle to better any time soon.”
