Q. I recently spotted a couple of carp really close to the surface even when part of the lake was frozen. The fish barely moved in the 15 minutes I watched them for so weren’t very active, but do you think it would be worth fishing a zig just below the surface?
Adam Penning - Most certainly! Using your eyes is the biggest asset you can have in carp fishing, and if the carp are clearly in a certain area or layer of the water, you need to angle for them and match your approach to their preference.
If the water is murky then take a look at the smaller range of 12mm fluoros. They’ll stand out like a sore thumb and hopefully trick the lethargic carp into tasting it!
