Monk Lakes produces huge 457lb winning net

The venue has been promising a massive weight for a long time, and last Sunday Monk Lakes finally made good on its super summer form with a massive 457-14-0 haul for Essex angler Ross Harrold, setting a new venue match record with some ease!

After a string of big 200lb and some 300lb nets throughout June and early July, the Marden, Kent complex saw Ockendon Bait & Tackle man Ross heave 10 keepnets out of the water at the end of the six-hour match on Lake 3. Dobbing tactics on the long pole with pellet and meat saw him catch carp well into double figures from peg 113 – needless to say, he won the match by a country mile as well.

However, Ross is no stranger to big weights, having plundered some massive hauls from venues such as Tylers Common and Puddledock Farm in his home county, but even he must have been surprised at how the fish kept on coming and coming as he caught on his first drop-in and never looked back.

On any other day, Tom Need’s second-placed 238-3-0 from peg 91 would have won the day, but he had to applaud Ross’s performance in a match that saw 150lb come absolutely nowhere!
