A short day-session was all the time Charles Glasse needed to land four carp from Suffolk Water Park’s Big Fish Lake including one of the venue’s biggest residents at a weight of 36lb 2oz.
The 18-year-old student from Ipswich also helped himself to mirrors of 33lb 3oz and 21lb as well as a 19lb common during the productive nine hour stint.
He told Angling Times: “After doing a session without any joy the day before my mate and I spotted some fish showing on the far side of the lake as we were leaving. I catapulted a few Sticky Vor-Tex boilies in 12mm and 16mm around the area and returned the following morning. I dropped in to the swim and shortly afterwards a decent looking fish head and shouldered right over my spot.”
It wasn’t long before he received the first take of the day when the 33lb 3oz mirror known as Single Scale took his trimmed-down Sticky Pineapple and N’Butyric pop-up fished on a zig rig.
“An hour later I had a bite from the baited area which produced the 21lb mirror,” he said. “I’d just got the rod back on the spot and reset the bobbin when it was away again. After a long, heavy fight I netted a fish called 4.3 at a weight of 36lb 2oz before rounding off the session nicely with an upper-double just before I was due to leave.”
Charles mounted Peach and Pepper pop-ups on rigs tied with 25lb Sufix Sheath Skin coated braid and size 8 Korda Wide Gape hooks which were fished over a hard gravel spot among an area of weed.
