Gareth Goldson put many hours spent researching possible big eel waters to good use when he landed this 7lb 4oz giant on his very first night of the season targeting the species.
The Cromer, Notrfolk-based all-rounder targeted a small commercial fishery, where he used a roach head cast close to a large group of snags, and received the bite at first light.
“I just had a gut feeling that it could hold a giant due to the vast amounts of small silverfish present. I’ve never experienced a fight like it! I had set myself a goal this season to break the 5lb barrier and was prepared to put all summer a side to do it, so am over the moon to get such a quick result,” said Gareth, who used a Kryston Quicksilver hooklink and a size 4 hook on a low resistance running rig.
