Goyt delivers big barbel brace

‘Perfect conditions’ was how specimen angler Jerry Gleeson described the river Goyt during a recent session on the waterway – a fact backed up by the capture of a brace of double figure barbel weighing 11lb 4oz and 10lb 11oz.
It wasn’t easy going.  Fishing a stretch of the waterway at Stockport the local rod didn’t have a bite all day.  But a switch of swim and the decision to fish into the night changed all that, turning a blank into a session of a lifetime.
As the sun set Jerry targeted a near-bank swim with legered spicy prawn and shrimp boilie over a bed of hemp and pellets, fooling the smaller fish at 11pm, before rebaiting and waiting before the bigger specimen came along at 2am.
“I fished through to 9am but didn’t have another bite. Still two doubles in a night from a little river - it doesn’t get any better,” said Jerry.
