This personal best 3lb 5oz roach was the pick of a superb haul of specimen redfins caught from an Oxfordshire gravel pit by Mike Kirby.
The Reading-based rod backed up his new pb with four other 2lb-plus fish, all caught on single red maggot hookbaits.
It proved to be a session of two halves for Mike, who struggled early on in his session, before finally getting among the fish.
“I was just in the process of texting a friend to say how slow the sport had been when my middle rod shot off. It signalled the start of a wonderful afternoon’s fishing which saw me achieve my target of catching a 3lb-plus roach during my first year on the lake,” said Mike.
The business end of his tackle consisted of a size 18 Kamasan B980 hook tied to a Preston Reflo 0.13mm hooklink.
Another angler cashing in on the excellent roach sport on offer at the venue was Dai Gribble, who helped himself to a new pb of 3lb 7oz.
Casting to an area at 50yds, the 46-year-old Korum consultant got his trip off to a flying start with a brace of 2lb-plus roach on the first day of his session.
Fishing double white maggot hookbaits in conjunction with a small feeder filled with red and white maggots, Dai then went on to net seven fish on the second day, including the biggest of his haul.
“I’d caught a new 3lb 2oz pb a month ago, so to break it again by such a margin was a great result.
“As far as I know this is also the biggest roach to be caught from the venue for over two years, which made it that extra bit special,” added the Stafford-based specimen-hunter.
All Dai’s fish were caught on size 18 hooks and short, 2ins Preston Reflo hooklinks.
